Budaya-Tionghoa.Net | Lao-tzu is the founder of Daoism, the indigenous inner or “spiritual” path of China. He left behind a 5,000 word, 81 Chapter statement of wisdom filled phrases, called “The Dao-de Jing” Practice the Tao Classic, (“How to practice the Dao/Way”). It has been translated more than 200 times into English. It is found in all modern bookstores. Here are Master Chuang’s (Daoist Master Zhuang’s) favorite passages, to teach Daoist spiritual practice:

I. DAO (TAO)
The Tao that is spoken is not the eternal Tao. The name that is named is not the eternal name. Wu Tao is heaven and earth’s origin; Yu (pregnant) Tao is nature’s mother. Let go Wu to know Tao’s mystery inwardly, hold on Yu, to be aware of Tao’s presence everywhere.
V. LOOK INSIDE
Heaven and earth don’t have favorites; Taoist sages don’t have favored people. Treat all like sacred objects. Look inside to find (Dao).
VI. MOTHER SPIRIT
Deep in the valley is a mother spirit, who doesn’t die, a mystery woman. The womb of this woman is heaven and earth’s source. Forever spinning, never tired, she’s always near.
VIII. WATER IS BEST
Water is best of all. Without contending, it does good for all things. It goes to the lowest place that others avoid. Because of this it is closest to Tao.
KEEPING THE “ONE”
How keep body and mind one? Be like a child: be aware of breathing, be soft and pliant. To see the Transcendent Tao, have a pure mind; don’t say “no.” To receive heaven’s blessing, be empty like a mother’s womb, Give birth and nurture, then let go.
XI. HOLLOW CENTER
30 spokes on a wheel are useless, if the center isn’t hollow. A porcelain bowl is worthless, unless empty. Doors, windows, and inner space make a room livable. Sell and give away all possessions to make real profit, empty things to make them useful.
XV. UNCARVED BLOCK OF WOOD
Long ago Taoists took Goodness as their master, Touched the subtle, wondrous mysteries of Tao… Such as shivering when wading in a winter creek, Careful not to disturb the neighbors, Polite and thoughtful when invited as a guest, Sensitive as ice beginning to melt, Simple as an un-carved block of wood, Unspoiled as a wild valley meadow, Cleared of mud and silt like a placid pond. One can only keep this kind of Tao By not getting too full. Stay new and fresh, be like sprouting grass.
XLIX. BE KIND TO EVERYONE
The real Taoist is good, to the kind, and unkind. True to the faithful and unfaithful. Because Tao is good and kind to all…Smiling on everyone.
LXVI. THE GREAT OCEAN
Why is the ocean the greatest of all creatures? Because it is the lowest; thus, all things flow into it.
LXVII. THREE TREASURES
I have three precious things, Compassion, simplicity, and never putting myself over others.
Heaven surrounds kindness/compassion, always coming to its aid.
