Lo Lieh dilahirkan pada 29 Juni 1939 di Pematang Siantar , Indonesia. Orang tuanya mengirim Lo Lieh remaja ke Hong Kong . Disana dia mengikuti sekolah akting dan memulai latihan seni bela diri sejak tahun 1962. Lo Lieh bergabung dengan Shaw Brothers dan menjadi salah satu aktor besar di Hongkong dari dekade 60-70an. Lo Lieh mulai membintangi beberapa film seperti Tiger Boy , Golden Swallow , Twelve Deadly Coins etc . Lo Lieh dalam film-film awalnya mempunyai ciri khas protagonis .
Di tahun 1972 , Lo Lieh membintangi “King Boxer” atau “Five Fingers of Death” . Film ini dirilis oleh Warner Bros di tahun berikutnya dan memunculkan wabah film kungfu di Amerika Utara. Pengaruh film ini tidak selesai sampai dimasa Lo Lieh saja , Film ini menjadi inspirasi bagi Quentin Tarantino untuk Kill Bill. Quentin Tarantino sendiri menempatkan “King Boxer” di urutan ke 11 film favoritnya sepanjang masa.
Lo Lieh mulai beralih ke peran-peran antagonis yang sesuai dengan karakter wajahnya Di tahun 1978 , Lo Lieh bersama Gordon Liu membintangi The 36th Chamber of Shaolin yang punya nama lain Master Killer atau Shaolin Master Killer. Film ini punya pengaruh besar dalam genfe kungfu. Duapuluh dua tahun kemudian versi DVD-nya masih dirilis dan di tahun 2010 dirilis pula versi Blu-ray. Grup band terkini Amerika Serikat , Wudang Clan menamai debut album mereka dengan Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
Di tahun 1979 , Lo Lieh berhadapan dengan Bruce Li (not Bruce Lee) dalam Fist of Fury II . Bruce Li berperan sebagai Chen Shan yang berduka atas kematian saudaranya yang tewas oleh Jepang. Hal ini membuat Chen Shan berhadapan dengan Lo Lieh yang berperan sebagai Miyamoto. Pertarungan antara Bruce Li dan Lo Lieh ini menjadi salah satu adegan kungfu klasik terbaik.
Di tahun 1984 , Lo Lieh tampil dala film Occupant yang dibintangi oleh Chow Yunfat dan Sally Yeh. Film ini menandakan peralihan karakter dan spesialis dari spesialis kung-fu menjadi pemain watak .
Di tahun 1990 , Lo Lieh membintangi Sex and Zen bersama Lawrence Ng , Elvis Hsu dan Kent Cheng. Ditahun 1992 membintangi “Police Story 3″ bersama bintang laga lainnya seperti Jackie Chan dan Michelle Yeoh.
Selain menjadi aktor , Lo Lieh menjadi Action Director dan Asisten Sutradara dalam “Fist of Dragon” (1977). Di tahun 1987 Lo Lieh memproduseri Zen Master 6. Selama karirnya Lo Lieh sudah menyutradarai sembilan film .
Di tahun 2000an Lo Lieh sudah mulai memasuki usia 60an tetapi masih tampil dalam beberapa film seperti The Vampire Combat bersama Valerie Chow dan Collin Chou.
Film “Glass Tears menjadi film terakhirnya sebelum pensiun dan meninggal dunia di tahun berikutnya , 2 November 2002 Lo meninggal karena serangan jantung pada usia 63 tahun.
